Who we are
Ethical Compass is an independent impact mapping agency that helps pension funds understand the environmental and social impact of their portfolio.
Every investment has an impact - so we guide our clients through the entire process of mapping their portfolio so that they be confident that their decisions are the best for their members, and the planet.
It’s our fundamental belief that impact investment is the most effective way to change the world’s future for the better. That’s why our entire business is dedicated exclusively to impact investment - and more specifically, in helping asset owners to unlock the massive potential within their portfolio.
With time quickly running out before our global situation is irreversible, the time to act is now. Call us today to find out how we can help you.
Why we must act now
During 2019 a groundswell of change gathered momentum. We were accustomed to climate-change protests on mainstream news; from Greta Thunberg sailing to the UN, Extinction Rebellion closing down cities, to students protesting at the Harvard vs Yale football match, calling for the college’s endowment funds to divest from its fossil fuel holdings.
If the 2010 years were about increased coverage on global issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and social inequality, then the 2020 years will be marked by the way that the investment industry responds to these defining issues.
Social pressure thrusting from ‘bottom-up’ is making the call for change deafening and unavoidable. It’s now explicit that asset owners must show conscious and courageous leadership when it comes to rewriting the course of history.
Those that do will be rewarded with the greatest financial returns and the largest positive environmental and social impact.
Independent and impartial
Ethical Compass are completely independent. We’re not sponsored or supported by any financial institution, which means that we’re entirely impartial.
We don’t have an underlying or ulterior motive, such as recommending a particular investment fund opportunity, nor are we tied to any one provider of data, insight, or advice.
We’re not regulated advisers either. This is a conscious decision in order to position us as a uniquely independent and trustworthy bridge between the financial services industry and the broader general public.
Simple and clear communication
We believe that a key objective for the transition to a more transparent and sustainable pensions industry is the use of simple, clear and honest communication.
We’re on a mission to help demystify the language of the investment industry. If we’re to be successful in achieving the ambitious targets of the Paris Climate Agreement then every individual member must be able to understand where their money is invested and the impact it has upon our planet.
We use ‘plain English’ language where possible, and employ designers who specialise in communicating often complex information in a clear and concise way. This enables us to communicate effectively with the widest audiences possible.
Our Ethical Compass Impact Team is headed up by our co-founders, Ben and Jon. We are committed to helping asset owners understand how they can solve some of the planet's biggest problems.
We've personally selected a team of experts to help us deliver our bespoke solutions that are both scalable and cost-effective. Between us, we have decades of experience in pensions, impact analysis, financial reporting, climate science, project management and global communications.
Our flexibility is our strength. It allows us to be adaptable to the specific requirements and budget of your project, it reduces our global carbon footprint, and it keeps our overheads lower so that we can pass extra savings on to you.
We're committed to having the most positive impact on the planet as possible, which is why we offset all our essential travel and business activities by paying a monthly fee to Offset Earth.

We are members of the global B Corp community. It’s a collection of people who believe that business can be done better.
They hold themselves to higher standards of environmental and social governance and advocate the end of shareholder primacy. The capitalist system needs a paradigm shift to enable a genuinely more sustainable and equitable world to rise up in its place.
It’s time that stakeholders, such as the environment, the community, clients, and employees have an equal consideration alongside the pursuit of financial profit. That’s the B Corp way. We are delighted to be involved and more can be seen here:
